Hiring wedding vendors can be a very intimidating task.
Hiring a Wedding DJ in Lynchburg VA should not be so terrifying, right? After all, the DJ is supposed to provide the enjoyable part of a wedding! Definitely there are a lot of things you need to consider before you book, but possibly the most significant thing you can do is to interview your DJ before you make a choice of which DJ company to hire.
We have found that people how meet in person – have a far better experience in deciding with DJ to book. One reason is, when you take the time to meet in person, you have the opportunity to get to know the DJ’s personality and professionalism… this will help you be able to make a much more knowledgeable decision based on his presentation or “pitch” as well as how they carry themselves, behavior. Your first impressions will serve you well. From your in-person interview/meeting, you should be able to get an overall “vide” from the DJ you are meeting with.
What if it’s hard for you to meet in person?
Sometimes, we find that our clients are not local – which makes it hard to meet in person. In these cases we recommend finding substitutions to in person meetings such as video chat or conference phone calls. Another great alternative is to have someone you trust, like a parent or good friend, meet and interview the DJ in person. This also will give you similar benefits, since that person know you and will be able to give you a good idea if the DJ they meet with is a good fit.
Knowing that the DJ will play an important part in the overall success of your event, why would you hire someone who didn’t feel comfortable with? The wedding vendors you hire to help you on such an important day should give you a good feeling and should, ideally also work well together. You don’t have to be best friends with your florist or cater – as long as their work speaks for itself. That said, I would still suggest hiring vendors that have good personalities… but you may find that it is not as important as making sure your DJ/MC does. If you don’t get a good vibe from your wedding DJ – you may want to keep looking. Wedding DJs need to be congenial and approachable.
There are all types of DJs… the key is to know beforehand, which you are getting.
If you notice, there is no mention of price shopping. Obviously you need to know who much the wedding DJ is going to charge, but this is not important. Here is why. Like most things, price is determined by the market.
During wedding planning, Brides say their highest priority is their attire, followed by the reception site and caterer – reception entertainment is among the least of their priorities.
Here are some stats to think about… within one week after their reception:
- 78% of Brides say they would have made the entertainment their highest priority.
- 81% of guests say the thing they remember most about a wedding is the entertainment.
- 98% say they would have spent more of their budget on the entertainment
We can’t suggestion strongly enough to our clients to meet with prospective wedding vendors before they hire them… particularly for the DJ, we feel this is the best way for you to make a knowledgeable assessment about the person who will be in front of all of your friends and family on your most important day. Remember, the DJ is responsible for running your entire reception and entertaining your guests. If you interview them face to face, you will feel better about the decision that you make one way or the other.
