Most couples that are planning a wedding have a budget – goes without saying, right? Djs are often one of the last wedding vendors to be booked – most couples find the perfect wedding venue, hire a wonderful photographer, select a wedding cake baker, buy flowers and wedding decor… the list goes on. After most of their budget is spent, finding a wedding DJ that fits their remaining budget seems like the best option.
Booking an amateur DJ for your wedding may cost you more then you think… before you do something you will regret, here are some things you need to know.
Inexperience DJs are “Inexperience”!
Do you really want to risk your “Big Day” hiring someone who does not have the experience to execute all the details that make up a successful wedding reception. After your event, will your guests remember how much fun they had dancing and celebrating -or- will they remember how awful the DJ was?
Don’t get me wrong, we all have to start somewhere… but weddings are not the place to learn the ropes of DJing or how to MC and event.
Amateur DJs are always cheaper
The amateur DJ, almost by definition, is going to charge much less. Professional DJ, by their very nature have to charge more to cover the cost of being a “professional”. Pro Audio Gear, Buying Music, Insurance, Licencing… just to name a few items that amateur DJs don’t bother with. For some, hiring an amateur – who is “just doing it for fun” might be okay, but when something goes wrong, it’s not a big deal to amateur.
A wedding professional, on the other hand, risks their reputation and business’ future with each event. One bad review, especially in the days of social media, will destroy business.
Make sure you hire a DJ that is invested in their business and performance on your wedding day -not someone who does it “just for fun”.
